Concrete guidelines and better safety-compliance mechanisms needed for RMG sector: Dr Moazzem

Workplace safety, employability, workers’ income and livelihood, and workers’ rights are still a prime concern in Bangladesh, says Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Research Director, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD, in an interview with ‘Charting Change Workbooks’ presented by Canadian Geographic and the International Development Research Centre.  The government of Bangladesh needs to develop more concrete guidelines and better safety-compliance mechanisms to ensure retailers obey the rules, while buyers and retailers should take on the responsibility of having third-party monitoring and auditing of their workplaces, he added.
