  1. What is CPD?

CPD is one of Bangladesh's leading civil society think-tanks. CPD conducts research and dialogues on issues of developmental interest and concern to Bangladesh. Based on these CPD endeavours to influence policy making in the country with the objective of generating domestically-owned and demand-driven policy agendas for Bangladesh. CPD is generally looked upon by stakeholders in civil society to provide a space where issues of national concern can be exposed to interactive discussion within an enlightened environment. CPD has established its credibility as one of the very few platforms in Bangladesh where stakeholders with various, often conflicting, perspectives are agreeable to sit around a dialogue table and discuss issues that demand national attention. (more information)

  2. How is CPD funded?

The initial core funds of CPD came from contributions made by the trustees and institution building support of the Ford Foundation. Subsequently, programme support has been received from various organisations. At present, CPD is in the process of generating an endowment fund. (more information)

  3. What are CPD's main activities?

    • CPD organises regular policy dialogues with participation from major stakeholders including policy makers, academics, experts, civil society, representative from the business community, NGOs and other civil society groups to stimulate a culture of dialogue and discussion on various important development issues.
    • CPD conducts in-depth research on critical development issues to service the needs of an informed public debate.
    • CPD provides an avenue to young people in Bangladesh by conducting an internship programme, where they are offered an opportunity to participate in the various activities conducted by CPD. (more information)
    • CPD conducts Policy Appreciation Workshops where representatives from relevant organisations are invited to participate.
    • Through its publications CPD endeavours to disseminate information on key issues of developmental interest to Bangladesh.

  4. How many professional staff are employed at CPD?

  5. Can we open a branch of CPD?

No, CPD operates from its Dhaka facility only, and at present has no plans to expand.

  6. Can I become a member of CPD?

CPD is not a membership-based organisation. Graduate students can apply for a CPD-internship here, and announcements for professional vacancies can be found here.

  7. Can my organisation apply for funding from CPD?

CPD receives support from various organisations and individuals to implement activities (details). CPD is not a donor agency and as such does not provide funds for other organisations.

  8. What is CPD's relationship with the Government of Bangladesh?

CPD is a non-political organisation which seeks to stimulate public awareness and discussion about issues relating to Bangladesh's development. Representatives from both the government and the opposition political parties, as well as NGOs, academics and researchers, trade bodies and grass-roots organisations are invited to participate in the various dialogues and discussions organised by the CPD. CPD regularly provides inputs to the policy makers based on the findings of its  research studies and recommendations generated through its dialogue process. CPD believes an accountable and transparent system of governance is critical to achieving sustainable economic development in Bangladesh.

CPD does not receive funding from the Government of Bangladesh.

  9. Does CPD have a library and how can outsiders access this facility?

CPD has a research and documentation unit for the use of CPD staff only. Unfortunately, it is not possible to allow outside access to this facility at present.
