CPD organised an in-house discussion on Strengthening Regional Connectivity in the presence of Mr John Dister, Senior Advisor, US Secretary of State who was visiting CPD and expressed his interest to have a discussion on regional connectivity. Dr M Rahmatullah, Former Director, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), Bangkok and an expert on connectivity made a presentation on the subject when he discussed current status and opportunities and challenges of regional connectivity. Engineer Rashed Maksud Khan, Managing Director, Bengal Fine Ceramics and Advisor, Bangladesh Myanmar Business Promotion Council and senior CPD researchers participated in the discussion. The presentation focused on the necessity of strengthening regional connectivity, reviewed the previous initiatives, and also highlighted on the prospects of the recent initiatives taken in this regard.
Bangladesh's rate of poverty reduction has slowed down in recent years. The yearly average rate of poverty reduction has dropped from 1.7 percent, between 2005 and 2010, to 1.2 percent, between 2010 and 2016.
