The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) is organising a dialogue on “Integrating Trade Issues in Post-2015 International Development Framework: Ongoing Debates and Potential Opportunities,” as part of the Bali Trade and Development Symposium (TDS) at the Ninth WTO Ministerial Conference in Bali, Indonesia, to be held on 3-6 December 2013.

Under the theme “International Trade Governance and Sustainable Development,” the dialogue slated for 5 December will comprise the following objectives:

  • Revisit as to how trade issues have been successful in case of poverty alleviation and structural adjustments in LDCs during the MDG era;
  • Improve the understanding of how trade related concerns will be addressed in the post 2015 development agenda; and
  • Understand how the structural challenges and emerging development issues facing LDCs will be addressed in the concept of SDGs

In accordance with the objectives, the session will try to address the importance of the trade related issues which came out of post-2015 international development discourse. Special attention will be put on investment, finance, Aid for Trade (AfT) and technology related issues.

The extent of trade concerns that have been addressed under the post-2015 agenda will be highlighted in the session. Various reports on Post-2015 which deal with evolving trade agenda will be brought under focus.

Given the statement in WTO negotiation, the organization’s role in shaping the post-2015 trade agenda will be identified in the session. It will also address major trade related concerns of vulnerable economies including LDCs in the context of post-2015 agenda.

The dialogue is co-organised by International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD),  The Commonwealth, South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), Southern Voice on Post-MDG International Development Goals and LDC IV Monitor.
