Development of Bangladesh with Equity and Justice (2009)The IRBD thematic volume for 2008-09 is a compendium of seven study reports, of which five were presented in a CPD organised two-day Conference titled Development of Bangladesh with Equity and Justice: Immediate Tasks for the Newly Elected Government, held on 28-29 March 2009, in Dhaka. The selection of themes was dictated by the emerging economic challenges for Bangladesh at the beginning of 2009, as well as by the priorities set by the electoral mandate. The book covers issues such as macroeconomic management and global economic crisis, energy and food security, ICT for development, employment guarantee scheme, crop production, and jute sector restructuring. First five chapters presented in the volume are also followed by the reports on the conference proceedings. Each of the seven chapters recommends a set of actionable agendas in the context of the development challenges Bangladesh economy facing today. The study reports also attempted to generate inputs for the then forthcoming national budget for FY2009-10.
