Post-2015 Data Test:
Unpacking the Post-2015 Data Revolution at the Country Level

Presentation of Initial Findings

 Tuesday, 14th October 2014

Governments will negotiate the successor framework to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2015. To support this post-2015 framework, a “data revolution” has been called for, to enable governments and policy makers to better track development progress and equip citizens with the information they need to demand more from their governments.

To articulate the formulation of a realistic, country relevant post-2015 sustainable development agenda, and to inform discussions on the data revolution, the Post-2015 Data Test was launched in early 2014.

The initiative, led by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Dhaka and The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) in association with Southern Voice on Post-MDG International Development Goals, is identifying opportunities and challenges that may arise from a universal, country-relevant post-2015 framework, assessing the adequacy of data available for measuring post-2015 progress at the country level, and enhancing the capacity of Southern think-tanks to contribute to the global debates shaping the post-2015 agenda.

The Post-2015 Data Test seeks to ensure that the global processes around the new agenda are informed by country-level realities. The workshop will consider the initial findings from the initiative and their implications for the post-2015 agenda broadly and the data revolution specifically. Divided in four thematic sessions, the workshop will discuss the following:

  • Major trends in data availability, and accessibility and usability in different sectors across the sample countries;
  • Data quality, benchmark and feasibility of “zero goals”;
  • Identification of national provisions within a universal framework; and
  • Institutional and policy challenges in pursuing “data revolution” at country level
