Training Manual on WTO and Bangladesh Trade Policy

WTO-and-Bangladesh-Trade-Po (2008)As Bangladesh gets increasingly integrated into the global economy, trade-related issues are assuming greater importance. There is thus an urgent need for enhanced awareness and understanding among major stakeholders with regard to key issues relating to multilateral trading system, and particularly the WTO.

This Training Manual intends to contribute to these emerging needs by way of providing ready reference and in-depth knowledge on some of the key negotiating areas in the WTO, and the major issues being discussed and debated in the course of the ongoing negotiations, particularly about WTO Doha Work Programme. Such areas include agriculture, NAMA, services, intellectual property rights, trade facilitation, regional trading arrangements, and environment, and Bangladesh’s policy stance in view of these.

It mainly draws on background materials prepared for a training programme organised for young university teachers, implemented jointly with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Presented in a user-friendly manner, with guidelines for lecturers and trainers, the Manual is intended to serve as a resource material for those who are interested to take courses and/or organise workshops and training programmes on themes relating to WTO and Bangladesh trade policy.
