CPD proposes four-point agenda to rejuvenate the economy over the coming months

In order to revive growth dynamism in the economy, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has proposed to restructure the fiscal framework, ensure policy predictability, provide support to Boro (rice) harvest and rural economy, and compensatory measures for sectors affected due to restive politics – in the report titled “Analytical Review of Bangladesh’s Macroeconomic Performance in FY2013-14 (Second Reading).”

Released at a media briefing at CPD office on Saturday 25 January 2014, the report was prepared under CPD’s Independent Review of Bangladesh’s Development (IRBD) programme as part of which CPD undertakes periodic review and analysis of the state of Bangladesh Economy.

On behalf of the CPD team, Professor Mustafizur Rahman, Executive Director, CPD highlighted the salient features of the macroeconomic management in FY2014, such as the fiscal sector, public expenditure, financing of budget deficit, inflation and monetary policy and external sector, followed by detailed analyses on the country’s agriculture and banking sectors, export sector performance and state of production and investment in the manufacturing sector.

Professor Rahman and Dr Debapriya Bhattachrya, Distinguished Fellow, CPD responded to queries from journalists. Widely attended by electronic and print media, the briefing was also addressed by CPD Research Fellow Mr Towfiqul Islam Khan, while Ms Anisatul Fatema Yousuf, Director, Dialogue and Communication; Dr Fahmida Khatun, Research Director and Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem were present among others.
