The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is going to disclose an account of humanitarian aid collection and disbursement towards the victims of Rana Plaza tragedy, says a Prothom Alo report published on Tuesday 28 January 2014.

The news appeared following the release of a CPD monitoring report on Rana Plaza tragedy and its aftereffects at a CPD dialogue held on Sunday 26 January 2014. The monitoring report particularly identified uneven implementation of pledges towards the victims of the tragedy and called for exercising accountability and transparency in the process of collecting and disbursing humanitarian aid for the victims.

The monitoring report on Rana Plaza tragedy, the second of its kind, was prepared as part of Post-Rana Plaza Monitoring: a Civil Society Initiative, led by CPD and a number of civil society organisations and individuals. The monitoring exercise seeks to assess the implementation status of post-Rana Plaza deliverables.

The Prothom Alo report also noted that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reviewed the latest status of the Relief and Welfare Fund. Referring to the Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Mr Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, the news report said that the amount distributed in grants and other related expenditure as of yesterday stood at over Tk 26 crore, excluding the expenditure for rescue operation administered by the Army, informed the fund’s key personnel.
