Young professionals say their voices should reach policymakers

Platforms should be created to help the future generation express their views on the issues of national importance, young professionals said at a discussion.

They also suggested there should be forums and also network of youths both in Dhaka and outside and their voices should reach policymakers.

This would not only help them address the challenges they are facing in running their businesses and activities but would also facilitate making their contribution to the country’s development.

The Centre for Policy Dialogue organised the discussion on Thursday at its office in Dhaka under its programme — Conversation with Future Leaders.

The young participants also expressed concerns for Bangladesh on its way towards sustainable development and in view of this, provided some suggestions for the upcoming national budget as regards fiscal policies and allocation of resources.

They suggested a more balanced tariff structure keeping in mind both export and the industries serving local markets, and higher allocation for education particularly for tertiary education. They also emphasised employability, and special allocation for green fund.

The session was participated by young leaders from Multimode Transport Consultants, Bitopi Advertising, Shasha Denims, International Office Equipment, GE Bangladesh, Picard Bangladesh, Jaago Foundation, Teach for Bangladesh, Techno Vista and North South University.

তরুণ পেশাজীবীরা নিজেদের কথা বলতে প্ল্যাটফর্ম চান

দেশের তরুণ পেশাজীবীরা এমন এক প্ল্যাটফর্ম বা সংগঠন ও নেটওয়ার্ক চান যেখানে তাঁরা নিজেদের বক্তব্য উপস্থাপন করতে পারবেন, আর তাঁদের কথাগুলো নীতিনির্ধারকদের কাছে পৌঁছাবে। এ ধরনের উদ্যোগ ব্যবসা বৃদ্ধির পাশাপাশি জাতীয় উন্নয়নে ভূমিকা রাখবে বলে তাঁরা আশা প্রকাশ করেন।

বেসরকারি গবেষণা সংস্থা সেন্টার ফর পলিসি ডায়ালগ (সিপিডি) আয়োজিত ‘ভবিষ্যৎ নেতাদের সঙ্গে কথোপকথন’ শীর্ষক এক আলোচনা সভায় তরুণ পেশাজীবীদের এই চাওয়াটা উঠে আসে। ঢাকায় সিপিডি কার্যালয়ে সম্প্রতি সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

সিপিডি এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তির মাধ্যমে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছে। এতে বলা হয়, সভায় অংশগ্রহণকারীরা দেশের টেকসই উন্নয়ন অর্জনের পথে বিদ্যমান চ্যালেঞ্জগুলো তুলে ধরেন। তাঁরা আসন্ন জাতীয় বাজেটে আর্থিক নীতি ও বরাদ্দের বিষয়ে বেশ কিছু পরামর্শ উপস্থাপন করেন। এসবের মধ্যে রয়েছে রপ্তানি পণ্য ও দেশজ বাজার দুই ধরনের শিল্পের জন্যই একটি সমন্বিত শুল্ককাঠামো প্রণয়ন; শিক্ষায়, বিশেষত কর্মসংস্থানভিত্তিক উচ্চশিক্ষায় বরাদ্দ বৃদ্ধি; ‘সবুজ’ তহবিল গঠনের জন্য বিশেষ বরাদ্দ ইত্যাদি।

আলোচনা সভায় মাল্টিমোড ট্রান্সপোর্ট কনসালট্যান্ট, বিটপী অ্যাডভারটাইজিং, শাশা ডেনিমস, ইন্টারন্যাশনাল অফিস ইকুইপমেন্ট, জিই বাংলাদেশ, পিকার্ড বাংলাদেশ, জাগো ফাউন্ডেশন, টিচ ফর বাংলাদেশ, টেকনো ভিসতা ও নর্থ সাউথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে আসা তরুণ পেশাজীবীরা অংশ নেন।

সভায় সিপিডির নির্বাহী পরিচালক অধ্যাপক মোস্তাফিজুর রহমান, বিশেষ ফেলো ড. দেবপ্রিয় ভট্টাচার্য এবং সংলাপ ও যোগাযোগ বিভাগের পরিচালক আনিসাতুল ফাতেমা ইউসুফ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

They said there is need for platforms where the views of the future generation of the country on the issues of national importance can be heard.

The young professionals suggested that there should be forums and also network of youths both in Dhaka and outside and their voice must reach the policymakers.

They expressed the opinion that this would not only help them address the challenges they are facing in running their business and activities but would also facilitate making their contribution to the country’s development.

Their remarks came from a discussion session organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) at the CPD office under its programme titled “Conversation with Future Leaders”, according to a press statement.

The session was participated by young leaders from Multimode Transport Consultants, Bitopi Advertising, Shasha Denims, International Office Equipments, GE Bangladesh, Picard Bangladesh, JAAGO Foundation, Teach for Bangladesh, Techno Vista and North South University.

CPD Distinguished Fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, Executive Director Prof Mustafizur Rahman and Director of Dialogue and Communication Anisatul Fatema Yousuf were present at the session.

The young participants expressed concerns for Bangladesh on its way towards sustainable development and in view of this, provided some suggestions for the upcoming national budget as regards fiscal policies and allocation of resources.

They suggested formulation of a more balanced tariff structure keeping in mind both export and the industries serving local markets, higher allocation for education, particularly for tertiary education, emphasising employability, special allocation for green fund etc.

They said this at a discussion titled ‘conversation with future leaders’ organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) in the city on Thursday, according to a press release.

This would not only help them address the challenges they are facing in running their businesses and activities, but would also facilitate making their contribution to the country’s development, speakers said.

The young participants suggested for a more balanced tariff structure keeping in mind both export-oriented enterprises and the industries serving local markets, higher allocation for education, particularly for tertiary education, emphasising employability, special allocation for Green fund etc.
