Educational Qualification

Bachelor of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, 1969

 

Began her involvement with citizen’s rights, immediately after the liberation of Bangladesh in 1972, living and working in remote rural areas.  In 1980, joined Nijera Kori, a national level NGO known for creating strong autonomous organizations of the rural poor to assert their rights and ensure their entitlements as citizens.  .

Khushi Kabir is a passionate feminist, rights activist, environmentalist, humanist, promoting rights of indigenous and other marginalized peoples – particularly in the area of land rights; environmental justice; food sovereignty; secularism, ensuring human dignity, democratic practices and accountability at all levels.  .She is active regionally and internationally in promoting a common vision towards peace, equality, and combatting all forms of violence (gender, ethnic, class and beliefs).

She is Chairperson, Association of Land Reform and Development-ALRD, a network of NGOs and citizens active in Land Rights; Chair, Safety and Rights, working with Workers Safety Issues in Bangladesh; a Member of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission; Trustee, Centre for Policy Dialogue, a civil society think tank; Vice-Chair Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Advisor and Core Group member, SANGAT, A South Asian Feminist Network; Member, APWLD-Asia Pacific Women Law & Development; Chair, ASIA-Asia Solidarity against Industrial Aquaculture;  Founding member of Southasia Peace Action Network; One Billion Rising Global Coordinator for Bangladesh among others.  She has also been on several boards of Government Bodies and Task Force, as well as autonomous organisations.
