On 25 June 2018, Dr Ruth Hill, Senior Economist of the World Bank Office in Washington, USA, shared their report on Bangladesh Poverty Assessment with CPD researchers. The report, prepared on the basis of Household Income and Expenditure Surveys (HIES) 2010/11-2016/17, was presented in an in-house seminar held at the CPD dialogue room.
The presentation gave insights as to how poverty trends have changed in Bangladesh since the last report, HIES 2010/11. A progress in poverty reduction of Bangladesh was seen, although, the rate of progress was slower in urban and the western part of the country. The poverty reduction would have been higher if growth was more equal, said Dr Hill. Inequality increased more in the rural areas, she added.
Following the presentation, CPD researchers shared their comments on the report.
