As part of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Independent Review of Bangladesh’s Development (IRBD) publication, CPD has published its review of macroeconomic performance of Bangladesh economy in FY2017-18. CPD researchers present their review of the Bangladesh economy through three phases as First Reading, Second Reading and Third Reading. The book contains CPD IRBD’s three readings of the Bangladesh economy.
The first chapter, State of the Bangladesh Economy in FY2017-18 (Third Reading), highlights the issues of formulating fiscal and budgetary measures for FY2018-19, monetary policy and banking sector, and recent volatility in the capital market. It also emphasises on external sector balances and its reasons of concerns.
The second chapter, State of the Bangladesh Economy in FY2017-18 (Second Reading): CPD’s Recommendations, particularly focuses on CPD’s recommendations for the upcoming budget and covers the area like macroeconomic scenario, excess liquidity to liquidity crunch, bullish and bearish trends in the capital market, incentives for export-oriented sector and special economic zones. Moreover, it specifically stresses on the issues like budget for social sector, budgetary implications of Rohingya crisis and Trust Fund for SDG delivery.
State of the Bangladesh Economy in FY2017-18 (First Reading) is included as the third chapter. It basically revisits the scenario of FY2016-17 and points out the issues of inflation and monetary sector scenario, external sector performance, assessment of flood damage and post-flood management, and implication of Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh.
