The global economy is expanding at a moderate pace with certain prospects and risks. Risks and challenges include near-term threats to the global economy from the trade war and long-term concerns like demographic changes that will lower the share of the working-age population.
Dr Tanweer Akram, Director, Global Public Policy and Economics, Corporate Affairs, Thrivent Financial, shared these observations in his presentation on “Prospects and Risks for the Global Economy”. The presentation was made at a meeting with CPD researchers on 14 August 2018 in CPD dialogue room.
Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, CPD’s Distinguished Fellow, questioned whether the growth of developed countries will sustain in the current context of growth. In reply, Dr Akram shared how income inequality is on the rise for countries like the USA, who are heavily consumption driven.
CPD researchers and the visitor discussed further on differences in growth models of the USA and China with regards to sustainability.
