Mr Pierre Encontre, Section Chief, SIDS and Status Issues, Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes, UNCTAD, and his colleague Ms Amelia Santos-Paulino, Economist at the Trade and Poverty Unit in the Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes of the UNCTAD, recently met the CPD researchers.
Encontre and Santo-Paulino shared their experiences of working with “vulnerability index”. Encontre shared how the vulnerability index evolved during 1997. When Vanuatu was found to lose the LDC status in 1997, which is when the problem in the methodological problem was identified. Thus, the modification in the graduation assessing process changed and the consideration of vulnerability was accounted for. Santos-Paulino also shared her opinions and experiences from working with such a vital issue of vulnerability.
The meeting was held at the CPD Dialogue Room on 22 November 2018. CPD researchers and UNCTAD professionals exchanged opinions and work experience throughout the discussion.
