Helen Mashiyat Preoty is an aspiring researcher working as a Research Associate at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). Ms Preoty is also the coordinator of the CPD Power and Energy Study. Her fundamental responsibilities are generating research ideas and implementing them to challenge the fossil fuel (coal, oil and gas, LNG) based energy structure from the perspective of economic viability, climate change and environmental concerns, aiming to inform the policymakers and government officials about the challenges and risks of the ongoing nature of development in the power sector and thereby influence them in undertaking necessary changes in policies, plans, and actions toward clean energy-based power generation in Bangladesh. The broad areas of her interventions are fiscal and budgetary measures and policy and plan of power and energy sector, phasing out fossil fuel- especially coal, abandoning imported LNG and focusing on domestic and renewable energy sources, identifying the role of developed nations such as G7s and G20s for ending fossil fuels and accelerating renewable energy in Bangladesh. Additionally, her current research areas include industrial and labour economics and women’s human rights.

Ms Preoty has completed her BSS and MSS in Economics from the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). She has received training on renewable energy, sustainable power and labour, and women’s rights from renowned national and international organisations.
