National Budget 2022–23 Summary: Roads, Highways and Bridges

    Eighth Five Year Plan targets development of the communication and port that are trade supportive. Under the railways master plan, constructions of 698.09 km new rail tracks, and construction of 648.51 km dual gauge/double rail line are targeted. Rail line renovation, construction of 9 important railway bridges, development of other infrastructures including level crossing gates, construction of inland container depot, construction and modernisation of workshops, 160 locomotives, 1,604 passenger coaches, procurement of modern maintenance equipment, maintenance and extension of 222 stations have been undertaken for improving the quality of rail services. Successful implementation of the budget is very important to achieve these goals. This policy brief highlights relevant allocations proposed for the roads, highways and bridges sector in the budget for FY 202223, particularly in view of the Annual Development Programme.
