December 2, 2013

shanhai-fk

Dr Fahmida Khatun, CPD Research Director, spoke at a conference on “The Role of BRICS in the Post-2015 Development Agenda” organised by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) during 28-30 November 2013, in Shanghai, China.

The conference sought a better understanding of interests of the BRICS in the post-2015 development agenda and the role they see for themselves within a new framework of global partnership. Dr Khatun addressed the session titled “Session III: Expectations towards BRICS in a Post-2015 Development Agenda.”

The session went on about the expectations from the developing world towards BRICS and the kind of commitment old donors’ would expect. The views of civil society actors with respect to BRICS and their role in a post-2015 development agenda was also a topic of discussion.

Other discussants of the session were Dr Hildegard Lingnau, Senior Counsellor, Development Cooperation Directorate, OECD, France; Roberto Bissio, Executive Director, Social Watch, Uruguay and Zhang Chun, Deputy Director, Center for West-Asian & African Studies, SIIS.

The conference was attended by experts from United Nations (UN), OECD, many BRICS, Latin America and European countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Germany, France, Uruguay and Bangladesh.
