Mr Muntaseer Kamal, Research Fellow, CPD and Ms Afrin Mahbub, Programme Associate, CPD participated in a training programme titled ‘BIMSTEC’s Human Resource Capacity Building for Uplifting the Quality of Life Creatively through a BCG Economy’. This programme was conducted by Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), Thailand, in partnership with the Royal Thai Government’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) from 5 to 10 September 2023. The researchers were invited to this programme as part of MHESI’s multilateral approach to promote international cooperation.
The training programme was designed to create awareness regarding the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), disseminate knowledge and share experience regarding Thailand’s Creative Economy and Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy models, and strengthen Thailand’s role as BIMSTEC’s Chairmanship. The training programme included onsite visits to Thailand’s BCG and Creative Economy Models including Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), UBU Science Park and Pilot Plant, Ubon Bio Ethanol Public Company, Phoyai Sub-district, and Communities in Khemmarat District. Representatives from all seven BIMSTEC member countries viz. Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, and the BIMSTEC Secretariat participated in this training programme.
