The CPD Journey: Commemorating Thirty Years of CPD
As the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) celebrates its 30th anniversary, I am happy to reflect on our remarkable journey. Founded in 1993 by Professor Rehman Sobhan, a visionary economist, CPD has displayed an unwavering commitment to promoting economic governance for an accountable and inclusive society in Bangladesh.
Over the past 30 years, CPD has not only emerged as a leading think tank in Bangladesh but also as a unique platform that brings together stakeholders with varied perspectives. Its credibility is built on a diverse range of activities, including high-quality research, dialogues, advocacy and policy-influencing activities, extensive publications, effective dissemination of its outputs, networking, and outreach programmes. CPD’s unique strength lies in its ability to promote active engagement around issues of concern to citizens, drawing synergies from building networks and partnerships.
This commemorative volume provides a visual narrative of CPD’s journey, showcasing photographs from dialogues, conferences, media briefings, meetings and social events spanning our three-decade history. These events, attended by people from home and abroad, capture CPD’s role in facilitating invaluable discussions on national, regional and global issues that contributed to the development narrative of Bangladesh and beyond.
The pages of this book honour the remarkable contributions of our partners, stakeholders, and colleagues, each of whom has helped shape CPD’s legacy. As we look to the future, we rearm our dedication to advancing research that informs policy, amplifies marginalised voices, and builds a prosperous, inclusive Bangladesh.
On behalf of the CPD family, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you for being a fellow traveller on our 30-year journey and for inspiring us as we embark on the next chapter. Your support, goodwill and encouragement have been invaluable to us.
Thank you.
Dr Fahmida Khatun
