Dr Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director of CPD has recently gave a lecture on Bangladesh Economy at the Atlantic Council, a think-tank based in the USA. In her lecture she discussed the recent trends of Bangladesh economy and the need for institutional strengthening and reform to overcome the ongoing challenges. She mentioned that the macroeconomic stability has weakened due to structural problems, inadequate policies, weak policy implementation, lack of good governance, and the inability to carry out the necessary reforms. She also discussed the context of IMF loan to Bangladesh and the way forward for establishing economic governance. She suggested the complementarity of fiscal and monetary policies, strong accountability and transparency of policy implementation.
