CPD researchers made important contributions to the Fifth South Asia Economic Summit (SAES V) held in Islamabad, Pakistan during 11-13 September 2012. CPD officials played significant role in different sessions being the keynote speakers, discussants, panelists and chair. This year SAES was hosted by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). As is known the objective of SAES, first launched in 2008, was to create a platform where leading thinkers, intellectuals and scholars, policymakers, private sector and other stakeholders would be able to engage in interactive discussion on emerging issues, and the opportunities and challenges facing South Asia in a fast changing world. The four initiating institutions were Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) of Sri Lanka, Colombo, Sri Lanka; Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), New Delhi, India; South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), Kathmandu, Nepal; and Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Later SDPI also joined the initiative.
