Bangladesh has no alternative to improve the quality of education to realise the Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In view of this, increased budgetary allocations and effective recourse mobilisation are essential.
These observations emerged from the sharing meeting titled Reaching Education 2030: 7th Five Year Plan and Beyond organised jointly by the Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh and the Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) on Wednesday 28 December 2016 at CIRDAP Auditorium Dhaka.
The Convenor of the Platform Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, Distinguished Fellow, CPD delivered welcome remarks at the event. He emphasised on three key elements- quality, accessibility and affordability of education towards realising the Goal 4 of the SDGs.
Dr Manzoor Ahmed, Emeritus Professor, BRAC University will make the keynote presentation at the subject. Hon’ble State Minister for Finance and Planning Mr M A Mannan, MP, spoke as the Chief Guest at the event. Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, Executive Chairman, Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) and former Advisor to the Caretaker Government and Dr Shamsul Alam, Member (Senior Secretary), General Economics Division, Planning Commission will attend the programme as Guests of Honour. Md. Gias Uddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary and Focal Point for SDGs, Ministry of Education and Chowdhury Mufad Ahmed, Additional Secretary and Focal Point for SDGs, Ministry of Education spoke as Guest speakers.
The event was chaired by the Core Group Member of the Platform Ms Rasheda K Choudhury, Executive Director, CAMPE. The floor discussion was attended by educationalists, researchers, development practitioners, experts among others.
