The First 100 Days of the New Government: Tracking Electoral Pledges and Implications for the National Budget for FY2019-20

The abovementioned CPD report has attempted to analyse the trends of a few selected sectors of the Bangladesh economy during the first 100 days of the newly elected government – economic growth; fiscal management; private investment; monetary policy and banking sector; and external sector. The report also outlined the policy stands recommended for the coming days.

CPD prepared Bangladesh’s macroeconomic analysis for the first quarter of 2019 keeping in view the election of the new government in the 11th National Parliamentary Election. The analysis looks into the current macroeconomic challenges and how the government is approaching towards successfully implementing their electoral pledges.

The publication also identifies how the policy interventions and allocative priorities can be improved qualitatively and quantitatively, in view of the forthcoming national budget for FY2019-20. The review also explores areas which need immediate policy attention, but have been overlooked by the election manifesto.

As a regular practice of analysing the macroeconomic performance of Bangladesh, CPD carried out this analysis under its flagship programme Independent Review of Bangladesh’s Development (IRBD).
