    Social and Health Status of the Aged in Bangladesh

    As part of CPD-UNFPA collaborative programme the CPD has planned to bring out a series of publications in order to facilitate wider dissemination of the findings of the various studies to be prepared under the aforementioned CPD-UNFPA programme. The present paper on the theme of Social and Health Status of the Aged in Bangladesh has been prepared by Professor Samad Abedin of the Department of Statistics, University of Rajshahi. The paper was presented at the seminar on Aging in Bangladesh: Issues and Challenges which was jointly organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue and Department of Statistics, University of Rajshahi on December 22, 1999. The seminar was held at Rajshahi under the CPD-UNFPA programme on Population and Sustainable Development.

    This paper provides a general overview on the social and health status of the aged population and identifies social and health-related issues that need to be addressed for the well-being of the elderly.
