The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) organised a Knowledge-sharing Workshop on “Gender Equality and Gender Budgeting in Bangladesh” on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at the CPD premises to strengthen journalists’ understanding of gender-responsive budgeting and national gender commitments.
The workshop opened with introductory remarks by Dr Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). Session 1: Gender Equality, National Commitments and Gender-Related Data featured a presentation on national and global gender equality commitments by Ms Masuma Billah, In-charge, Gender Justice and Diversity Programme, BRAC, followed by a presentation on gender-related data by Ms Preetilata Khondaker Huq, Programme Associate (Research), CPD.
Following the first session, Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairman, CPD addressed the participating journalists, emphasising that CPD values insights from journalists as they are closest to realities on the ground. He urged participants to ensure that reporting on gender equality and public finance is firmly grounded in facts, credible data, and careful analysis.

Session 2: Gender Budgeting in Bangladesh began with an interactive Mentimeter exercise facilitated by Ms Afrin Mahbub, Research Associate, CPD. The session was led by Dr Fahmida Khatun, who made the discussion highly participatory by inviting journalists to share their perspectives and the challenges they face when reporting on the gender budget. She clarified key features, scope, and limitations of Bangladesh’s gender budgeting framework, leading to a lively and engaged discussion.
The workshop concluded with certificate distribution, reaffirming CPD’s commitment to promoting informed, data-driven, and gender-sensitive journalism because better reporting leads to better public conversations.
