CPD mourns on the 43rd death anniversary of Bangabandhu

On the dawn of 15 August 1975, people living around Dhanmondi road number 32 in Dhaka, woke up to the sound of showering bullets. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, and his family members were slain by a group of miscreants. As the news broke, people were shaken and the future of the country seemed uncertain. Bangladesh lost its ultimate leader.

CPD mourned the 43rd death anniversary and observed the National Mourning Day with senior members of CPD sharing their personal experiences of the dreadful event.

Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem, CPD’s Research Director, urged the junior researchers of CPD to study more on how Bangabandhu built Bangladesh’s economy out of the post-liberation war wrecks.

Mr M Shafiqul Islam, Director, Administration and Finance, recalled from his experience how the people of Bangladesh were stunned to silence as nothing were there to comprehend.

Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, CPD’s Distinguished Fellow, also shared his personal experiences on how the event shook the whole world. Speaking of the Father of the Nation, Dr Bhattacharya projected on the extraordinary capacity of Bangabandhu in reading the pulse of the nation and drawing on the need and perspective of people in charting his plan and actions, which made him Bangladesh’s greatest leader of all times.

Dr Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director, spoke about how Professor Rehman Sobhan, CPD’s Chairman, integrally worked with Bangabandhu in paving the way towards the sovereignty of the country.

Bangabandhu will always be the people’s leader beyond all political preferences.
