    Demographic and Economic Consequences of Aging in Bangladesh

    As part of CPD-UNFPA collabo1rative programme the CPD has planned to bring out a series of publications in order to facilitate wider dissemination of the findings of the various studies to be prepared under the aforementioned CPD-UNFPA programme. The present paper on the theme of Demographic and Economic Consequences of Aging in Bangladesh has been prepared by Professor M. Kabir of the Department of Statistics, Jahangirnagar University. The paper was presented at the seminar on Aging in Bangladesh: Issues and Challenges which was jointly organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue and Department of Statistics, University of Rajshahi on December 22, 1999. The seminar was held at Rajshahi under the CPD-UNFPA programme on Population and Sustainable Development.

    The paper investigates the demographic and socio-economic issues that need to be addressed for the care of elderly. Based on the research findings, it suggests priority areas for research.
