    Population, Development and Environment: The Emerging Issues

    As part of the CPD-UNFPA collaborative programme the CPD has planned to bring out a series of publications in order to facilitate wider dissemination of the findings of the
    various studies to be prepared under the aforementioned CPD-UNFPA programme. The present paper on the theme of Population, Development and Environment: The Emerging Issues has been prepared by Professor M. Ataharul Islam of the Department of Statistics, University of Dhaka. The paper was presented at the launching National Workshop on Populaiton, Development and Urbanisation: The Emerging Issues which was organised by the Centre on July 4, 1999.

    This paper highlights the issues concerning the interrelationships between population and economic growth as well as the relationship between population growth and environmental degradation.
