Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), in collaboration with JustJobs Network, LIRNEasia, Southern Voice, and the Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh, organised a webinar titled “Work in Flux: Foresight for the Future of Work in the Global South.” The event was held under the FutureWORKS Asia initiative, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
The webinar brought together policymakers, researchers, development practitioners, and representatives from international organisations to discuss how technological transformation, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and structural economic changes are reshaping labour markets across the Global South. The discussion also explored policy priorities for building resilient, inclusive, and future-ready labour markets.
The programme featured a presentation of findings from CPD’s latest foresight study, Is Bangladesh Ready for the Future of Work? Preparing the Labour Market for Automation, AI, and Structural Transition, followed by reflections from regional and international experts representing Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, and Argentina. The discussion examined Bangladesh’s preparedness for the changing nature of work while situating the country’s experience within broader regional and global trends.
The webinar concluded with an interactive discussion where participants exchanged views on strengthening education and skills systems, promoting workforce transition, expanding social protection, and enhancing institutional readiness to address emerging labour market challenges.
